Judima is a traditional rice wine originating from the Dimasa tribe of Assam, made through the fermentation of glutinous rice using a distinctive starter cake called humao, which includes the bark of the local herb thembra (Acacia pennata). It holds Geographical Indication (GI) tag recognition (2021) — making it the first traditional brew from Northeast India to receive this status under India’s GI law. The GI tag protects its authenticity and ties the product to its cultural origin.
